The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper linked to a 2024 abduction case in a joint operation involving the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Wamakko Division, and local vigilantes.
The suspect, according to a press statement made available to newsmen on Friday by spokesman of the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, identified as Muhammad Damma Abubakar, a resident of Kamasu Village in Silame Local Government Area, was apprehended on April 27 in Laini Village following credible intelligence.
“Abubakar was positively identified by three kidnap victims, Alhaji Garba Danbaba, Umar Ubandawaki, and Shehu Abubakar, all from Kamasu Village, as a member of the gang that abducted them last year.
“During a follow-up search, security operatives recovered an AK-49 rifle and 13 rounds of live ammunition in the suspect’s possession”
Police say investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the criminal network and identify other accomplices.
The spokesman reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining public safety.
He also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activity.
