Emir-of-Kano-Sanusi

Sanusi Lamido, the reinstated Emir of Kano, has arrived at the Kano State Government House to receive his official appointment letter. This follows his reappointment as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf, four years after his dethronement by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

On Thursday evening, Sanusi was welcomed with a homecoming reception. Today, he is expected to participate in a mini-durbar ceremony at the Africa House in the Kano Government House at 10 a.m. Following the ceremony, he will proceed to the Nassarawa Emir’s palace.

Sanusi will then lead the Jumat prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located at the palace in Kofar Kudu.

In addition to reinstating Sanusi, Governor Yusuf deposed five emirs appointed by Ganduje, giving them a 48-hour ultimatum to vacate their official residences and palaces. He directed the deposed emirs to hand over all affairs to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

However, the Federal High Court in Kano has issued an order stopping the enforcement of the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order in response to an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

The lawsuit, which addresses the legitimacy of the Emir’s seat, lists the respondents as the Kano State Government, the House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Attorney-General, the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the State Security Service.
