In a powerful display of faith, unity, and advocacy, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State Chapter, on Monday hosted the 2025 Easter Praise and Prayer Celebration at the Trade Fair Complex, Old Airport, Sokoto. The event, themed “He Is Risen,” brought together Christians from across denominations, tribes, and communities to pray for peace, healing, and national revival.
Speaking passionately at the gathering, the Chairman of CAN in Sokoto State, Rev. Dr. Moses Kayode James, JP, declared that the resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as a timeless symbol of hope, victory, and divine power in troubled times.
“The resurrection is not just an event; it is a living reality that calls us to rise above fear, despair, and division,” Rev. James proclaimed.
“It reminds us that death has been defeated, and that peace can reign, even amid chaos.”
While emphasizing the spiritual significance of Easter, Rev. James did not shy away from addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He issued a heartfelt appeal to the government at all levels to take decisive action against insecurity ravaging many parts of the country.
“Our people are living in fear,” he lamented.
“Blood is flowing in Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Edo, Borno, and beyond. It is the government’s duty to protect lives and property. Security is not a privilege, it is a right!”
The CAN Chairman urged leaders to match the Church’s prayers for peace with concrete steps to restore security and ensure justice. He called on all Nigerians regardless of denomination, ethnicity, or age to rise in unity and faith, declaring, “Let our unity be louder than our differences, and our faith stronger than our fears.”
The atmosphere at the event was charged with worship and deep intercession, as music ministers, youth groups, and church leaders led the crowd in spirited praise and fervent prayer for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
The chairman further in his speech encourage citizens with words of hope, “May the power of the resurrection be made manifest in our lives, in our churches, and in our nation. May the peace of Christ reign in Sokoto State now and always.”
