The Contracting firm, CALDAR Construction Nigeria Limited, handling the construction work on Sokoto State teaching hospital has disclosed that the project is thirty percent completed.
Speaking with newsmen while on project monitoring tour organized by the state chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, the Supervising Architect in charge of the building, Architect Kabiru Usman Yabo, disclosed that the level of work currently at the site is commendable comparing with the time the contractors were mobilized to site.
Yabo, who is also the chairman of Nigerian Institute of Architect, (NIA), in Sokoto State said the job when completed will conviniently accommodate 950 patients across the wards in the hospital.
According to him, “the hospital consists of 950 bed space capacity and boast of 16 different wards when completed.
“The general wards is six and each of the wards has a capacity of 90 bed space, while the trauma centre also will accommodate 90 bed space when completed.
“There is also a provision for Amenity wards which is being designed to be a single patients per room with toilet.
“The amenity ward is made of three blocks, and each of the block has bed space of 40 patients. We also have what we called very important personality (VIP) ward.
“The VIP rooms as the name implies, was designed to discourage medical tourism outside the country.
” It consists of the blocks as well and each ward also has 14 rooms. In each of the room, there is provision for a waiting room and bed space with toilet and will be furnished in accordance with what is being obtained anywhere in the world.
“We also have another ward coming up which we tag VVIP, and will be an improvement on the provision of what we have in VIP ward” he assured.
He further explained that other facilities in the hospital under construction includes a 300 sitting capacity auditorium, Doctors lodge, NYSC lodge, Administrative building, Morgue among others.
He stressed that the 30 months completion time given to the contractor to deliver on the project will be maintained by the firm.
When Tribuneonline visited the site, workers were seen on duty doing their job and the level of progress of work is also encouraging.
The chairman of NUJ in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Shuni, commended the contractor for not comprising on quality of either raw materials or workers.
He urged them to maintain the quality of work done so far which he said will be of great quality to not only the government but the entire people of the state.
