…says agitators didn’t mean well for Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on federal government not to think of scrapping National Youth Service Scheme for any reason.

He said  those clamouring for the scrapping of National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme did not mean well for the country

Sultan stated this on Monday in his palace Sokoto when he received the Batch A stream 2 corp members currently undergoing orientation exercise who were on a courtesy visit.

The traditional leader explained that NYSC scheme was established to foster unity, proper encouragement and development among Nigeria’s nationality.

“I heard there is a bill for the scrapping of NYSC scheme at the national Assembly ‘ let me tell you, those behind that bill did not mean well for this country Sultan insisted.

He stated that NYSC scheme is most needed now when Nigeria is divided along ethnic, religious background.

While welcoming the corp members posted to the state, he stressed that Sokoto State is the most peaceful state in Nigeria .

He advised the corp members to look at the state as their second home, while enjoined them to respect the customs , and traditions of their host communities.

He urged them to be security conscious admitting that there is security challenges in some parts of the state saying the trend now is a global phenomena .

“I urged you to be security conscious while staying in Sokoto, you know there is security challenges now all over the world which we here have our own share,  don’t keep late at night, if you have any challenges contact your district head because they are like your father and guardian, he added.

He affirmed that  no non indigene in the  state would be touched because a Northerner is been killed in Owerri , Enugu , Aba saying another person cannot bear punishment of what someone did elsewhere.

He further disclosed that the two major religion in Nigeria , Christian and Islam are against killing of innocent people for no just cause saying life is sacred and no one has right to take it except God.

He implored leaders to talk when things are going wrong saying injustice must also be addressed to calm down tension and agitatons.

Earlier in his remarks, the State coordinator of  NYSC Mr Philip Enaberue thanked Sultan for his unflinching support to the scheme in the state.

Enaberue further said as tradition they were in the palace to pay homage to Sultan and seek his fatherly advice.
