The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has clarified that the former Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, were not sacked but are part of an ongoing reorganization. The governor made these statements in a chat with newsmen on Friday night.
Reorganization Explanation Governor Otti explained, “We did not sack the former Chief Press Secretary. We only did re-organization. No appointment is permanent.” This statement aims to address media reports suggesting dismissals.
Health Commissioner Suspension Regarding the suspension of Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the governor stated, “Suspension of the Commissioner of Health is on allegation based on suspicion. Already, a committee has been set up and the result will come in.” He emphasized that suspensions are standard when a prima facie case is identified. If Dr. Okoronkwo is found not guilty, she will be reinstated; if guilty, she will face the consequences.
Security Concerns Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to security, particularly in response to the recent killing of soldiers at Obikabia Junction. He asserted, “This government takes security seriously. We are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that everyone connected with that dastardly act where soldiers were murdered is brought to book. We have empowered Operation Crush to crush crime anywhere in the state.”

Otti stated, “We are preparing our state for the next century. Wherever you are, you can have access to data.” He highlighted that infrastructure improvements will be extended to all 17 LGAs in the coming months, emphasizing roads as strategic to the economy.
Healthcare and Agriculture Initiatives Governor Otti confirmed ongoing attention to general hospitals and primary healthcare centers in the state. He also noted efforts in the agriculture sector, with the first batch of 300 beneficiaries sent to CSS Farms in Nasarawa State for training in various agricultural value chains. The government is also partnering with organizations for palm oil, cocoa, and rice production.
Civil Service and Worker Welfare The governor addressed issues of staff promotions, conversion, and confirmation, which had not been conducted since 2021. He assured that the government is prioritizing worker welfare, with regular salary payments and pension distributions. Leave allowances arrears will also be addressed.
Open-Door Government Otti emphasized an inclusive governance approach, welcoming individuals from all political parties. He stated, “We run an open-door government where every person from other political parties are welcomed. I am not a governor of one party, but of the state and all must have a say.”
