Army…We Are Ready

There is palapable tension in Umuahia the Abia state capital and its environs as security surveillance and manoeuvre have been intensified following a letter purportedly written to the military formations and other security commands in the state by the rampaging bandits, notifying them of their coming to engage the security in a fight.

Reliable security source who is privy to developments within the Abia security circles hinted that the letter was addressed to nearly all security agencies in the state such as the military, Police, DSS, Prisons NSCDC etc.

Following the receipt of the letter, which indicated that the bandits would hit military and security bases in Umuahia, the military commad was said to have replied that they are waiting for them.

Already, military presence can be noticed in strategic locations, while security has been beefed up in Umuahia around the Prisons, Central Police and state CID, NSCDC, the DSS and government house Umuahia.

Abia government house has been temporarily shut as visitors and other categories of people are not allowed near the gate, just as large number of security personnel have been mobilised to keep vigil within the premises.

Our reporter gathered that inmates of the correctional centre Umuahia, yesterday celebrated their imminent release as news filtered in that the bandits were coming to throw the prison gates open for them.

This led to panic along Aba road as security blocked access road to the prison and also stopped visitors from entering the facility.

The DSS is said to be providing intelligence to other para-military agencies in the state like the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), and others which are moving their moveable assets to safety.

Military Vans are visible and patroling the Umuahia metropolis in combat readiness for the showdown with bandits.

Sources cautioned residents to be careful with their movements and with the security, especially the military as they are on red alert and bound to respond on any slightest suspicion or confrontation.
