Three persons have reportedly died while 11 people were injured as a commercial bus plunged into a river in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp says the accident occurred due to an alleged mechanical fault in the vehicle.

According to Punch, the accident involving a yellow Mazda E220 commercial bus occurred at 10 am on Thursday, June 4, 2019, due to an alleged mechanical fault.

Confirming the accident, Clement Oladele, Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp said 14 people were in the commercial bus.

Oladele in a statement said, “A total of 14 people comprising five male adults and nine female adults were involved in the fatal crash.

“The people injured were 11, comprising five males and six females. “A total of three people died in the crash made up of one male and two females.”

He further explained that the accident was a lone crash, adding that the driver of the bus which took off from Ijebu-Ode motor park to Lagos lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the Ososa River, along the Ijebu-Ode/Sagamu Expressway.

“The suspected cause of the crash is mechanical deficiency. “The injured victims were rescued to the General Hospital Ijebu-Ode, while corpses were deposited at the same Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Mortuary,” Oladele added.

The FRSC boss commiserated with the families of the crash victims and also advised vehicle operators to put their vehicles in good condition before any trip and at the same time urged drivers to be cautious during the rainy season to avoid road traffic crash.
