President Bola Tinubu addressed a joint session of the National Assembly in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, urging Nigerians to focus on building a nation for generations unborn. He also announced plans to soon introduce the 2024 Supplementary Bill.
President Tinubu arrived at the chamber at 12:31 PM, accompanied by notable figures such as APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, former Deputy Speaker Patricia Etteh, and other former lawmakers.
In his address, Senate President Godswill Akpabio noted that Tinubu had stopped by primarily to greet the lawmakers and commission the new National Assembly Library.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas clarified that the visit was also intended to flag off the recitation of the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” following its reinstatement into law by President Tinubu. Abbas apologized for any earlier misinformation regarding the President’s visit, attributing it to a mistake by the National Assembly.
“The President has requested that any further speeches be deferred to June 12, Democracy Day,” Abbas stated. “On that day, the President will officially inaugurate the recitation of the reinstated national anthem and proceed to other important engagements.”
