President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu conveyed his profound grief over the incident, describing President Raisi as a leader who was deeply dedicated to the development of Iran.
President Tinubu extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for the continued peace, stability, and prosperity of the Iranian nation. “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I assure the Islamic Republic of our support and prayers in this moment of grief,” Tinubu said.
The helicopter carrying President Raisi and his entourage went missing on Sunday afternoon while flying over a mountainous region. Rescue teams scoured the area and, early Monday, located the missing helicopter, confirming the death of Raisi and the other officials.
State television mourned the loss, stating, “The servant of the Iranian nation, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, has achieved the highest level of martyrdom whilst serving the people,” a sentiment echoed by the Mehr news agency.
This tragic event has led to an outpouring of condolences and support from international leaders, reflecting the global impact of President Raisi’s leadership and the deep sorrow felt by the Iranian people.
