President Bola Tinubu has announced the extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, for an additional six months, effective until the end of the year.
This decision was revealed during President Tinubu’s address at the inauguration of the Abuja metro rail operations on Wednesday. The extension aims to provide continued relief to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Previously, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had declared a two-month period of free rides to ease commuting burdens. However, President Tinubu appealed for a longer duration to offer more substantial support to the people of Abuja.
“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” President Tinubu stated.
The extension is expected to significantly ease the daily commuting challenges faced by FCT residents, aligning with the administration’s broader efforts to enhance public transportation infrastructure and services.
