In commemoration of his first year in office, President Bola Tinubu has directed his 47 ministers to present detailed performance reports to the public. The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing in Abuja.

Starting today, these sectoral briefings will highlight the progress and achievements of each ministry as part of a low-key celebration marking Tinubu’s first anniversary in office. Idris was accompanied at the briefing by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu.

President Tinubu, who was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, garnered 8.7 million votes. He defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who secured 6.9 million and 6.1 million votes, respectively.

During a three-day cabinet retreat in November 2023, President Tinubu emphasized that ministers would be retained based on their performance, reviewed quarterly. On January 24, 2024, the Central Delivery Coordination Unit trained officials to track and assess the performance of federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

Hadiza Bala-Usman, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, reported in April that performance reports had been received from 20 of the 35 ministries. These assessments are a collaborative effort involving ministers, citizens, and industry experts, utilizing the Citizens Delivery Tracker app for public feedback.

Under Tinubu’s administration, significant reforms have been implemented to stabilize the economy, reduce inflation, and attract foreign investments. Key measures include ending the fuel subsidy regime, allocating substantial funds to agriculture, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.

The administration has also launched a 100,000 renewable housing program and directed the purchase of compressed natural gas buses to reduce transportation costs and promote energy efficiency. In security, the government has made significant budget allocations to enhance national security and support the call for state police.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced reforms to unify exchange rates, boost foreign exchange supply, and encourage non-oil exports. These efforts aim to create a stable macroeconomic environment conducive to investment and economic growth.

Information Minister Mohammed Idris stated that the first anniversary would be marked by sectoral briefings rather than grand ceremonies. The briefings will showcase the achievements of each ministry, aligned with President Tinubu’s policies.

Senator George Akume highlighted the administration’s ambitious agenda for economic revitalization, social inclusion, and infrastructure development. He noted that significant economic reforms have attracted foreign investments, reduced inflation, and boosted job creation across various sectors.

Minister Abubakar Bagudu emphasized the importance of difficult decisions for long-term stability and growth. He outlined the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on eight priority areas essential for Nigeria’s progress. These areas include food security, infrastructure, education, health, the digital economy, and the steel sector.

Bagudu also mentioned that the administration aims to reduce the fiscal deficit and increase capital expenditure to stimulate economic growth. Significant budget allocations have been made to national security, local government autonomy, and support for vulnerable populations.

As Nigeria marks the first year of President Tinubu’s administration, the focus remains on transparency, performance, and sustained economic and social development.
