In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has directed the recall of Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News.

According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Tuesday, the directive effectively reverses the previously announced appointments of new leadership for the NTA.

Dembos, who was appointed DG of the TV network by President Tinubu in October 2023, will now return to complete his three-year tenure. Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed Executive Director of News in 2024, will also complete his three-year tenure, which ends in 2027.

The recall of the two top officials is seen as a major shake-up in the NTA leadership, and it remains to be seen how this development will impact the operations of the network.

The statement stressed that “the president’s directive is a clear indication of his commitment to ensuring stability and continuity in the NTA leadership. With Mr. Dembos and Mr. Adewuyi returning to their positions, the NTA can now look forward to a period of renewed stability and focus on its core mandate of providing quality broadcasting services to the Nigerian public.

“It is worth noting that the recall of the two officials comes at a time when the NTA is undergoing significant changes aimed at improving its operations and relevance in the modern media landscape. The network has been working to revamp its programming and services to meet the evolving needs of its audience.”

The NTA is one of Nigeria’s most prominent media organisations, and its leadership plays a crucial role in shaping the country’s media landscape.
