President Bola Tinubu has signed a bill to reinstate Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” into law.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the signing at a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday.

During his address to the lawmakers, President Tinubu mentioned he will soon introduce the 2024 Supplementary Bill.

In his welcome address, Senate President Akpabio noted that President Tinubu stopped by to greet the lawmakers while in the National Assembly to commission the new library.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, apologized for earlier misinformation regarding the President’s visit, attributing it to a mistake by the National Assembly.

“The President has requested that any further speeches be deferred to June 12, Democracy Day,” Abbas said. “On that day, the President will officially flag off the recitation of the old national anthem following its reinstatement and proceed to other important engagements.”
