President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the next phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, extending from Cross River to Akwa Ibom, in August. This development aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at sustaining ongoing infrastructural progress.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held at Ibom Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday. The ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Edet Ekpenyong, released a statement on Sunday confirming the details.

“We are here to introduce Section Three and Four of the famous Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway,” said Minister Umahi. He explained that Section One, spanning 47.4 km, begins in Lagos and terminates at the deep port in Lagos. Section Two extends from Lekki Deep Sea Port to the Dangote Refinery.

“The President has graciously directed that Section Three and Four must start at Cross River and stop at Akwa Ibom,” Umahi stated. Section Three comprises 27 km in Akwa Ibom and 38 km in Cross River, while Section Four is entirely within Akwa Ibom, covering 80 km. Combined, these sections total 107 km, significantly benefiting the coastal highway project.

Umahi assured that once the procurement process is completed, work will commence simultaneously on multiple subsections of Sections Three and Four. He emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his promises, highlighting the widespread commendations and support from Nigerians for the coastal highway project.

At the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for initiating Sections Three and Four from Cross River to Akwa Ibom. He urged Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno to provide maximum support to the Federal Government in this endeavor.

This phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructural development, promising enhanced connectivity and economic growth for the regions involved.
