Traders in Edo State have congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki on his re-election in the September 19 election, hailing the governor for his ease of doing business reforms and the ongoing construction of the Benin River Port.
A cross-section of the traders from the International Morning Market Benin (IMMB), who spoke to journalists in Benin City, the state capital, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the waiver given to them for processing of the Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) of their proposed market.
President, IMMB, Luke Abbas, said they were glad that the state government was working assiduously to meet the challenges faced by traders, noting that the provision of durable infrastructure by government would continue to create the right environment to do business in the state.
According to him: “We are hopeful that the market would be open very soon. We are appealing for government to expedite work on the road linking the market. We are happy about the Benin River Port project, as it will enhance commerce.
“Once it is completed, our containers will no longer go through Lagos. Once we finalise government support for the market, we would deploy our resources to build the market and then move in.”
Head, Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi, noted that the market is a welcome development, expressing appreciation to the traders for their overwhelming support and active participation in the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Uwaibi added that the Sapele Road axis in the state capital is already transforming into an industrial area in Benin City, and assured that government is ready to welcome any positive effort that would fast- track investment to strengthen the state’s post-COVID-19 economy.
