It was double tragedy yesterday at Etitiama Nkporo community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia state when a man, identified as Kalu Ilum, shot dead his wife at her shop located at the motor park area of the community.
Angered by the gruesome murder of the woman, youths of the community arrested the man and meted jungle justice, setting him ablaze.
It was gathered that Ilum had been having marital problems with his wife, known as Chichi, a food vendor.
A native of the community told Pointblanknews.com that Chichi had sought for divorce due to the incessant marital problems she has been having with her husband.
“The couple has long unresolved marital issues, leading to his wife, Chichi who sells food in the community to seek for divorce. But no one thought that the man could go the extent of killing his wife.”
However, things were said to have gone out of hand at about 7am yesterday when Ilum in a fit of rage, stormed his wife’s shop and shot her dead. She died instantly.
After killing his wife, Ilum reportedly fled the area and hid himself inside a water well in a bid to escape justice.
Determined to get to answer for his crime, the youths of the community went searching for him, but their effort proved futile.
They later sought the services of a voodoo priest who was said to have employed diabolical powers to smoke out the killer husband from the well.
As he came out from the well, Ilum was beaten to death and set ablaze by the angry mob. The youths also marched to his house and set it ablaze.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Abia State Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, a Superintendent of Police, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
