A renowned transporter and the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress Abia state Chapter High Chief Sunny Nwakodo has berated the Former Governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu over his alleged claim that the South East roads have been fixed by the government of President Buhari.

Nwakodo while fielding questions for our correspondent in his Ndume Ibeku country home said the  repair of South East road by Buhari as claimed by Orji Uzor was misleading and shameful for the statement to have come from the son of Ndigbo whose roads in are disrepair.

“I was ashamed of this statement made by Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. Does it mean that he does not ply South East road?It takes drivers six hours to travel from Port Harcourt to Enugu.Enugu to Onitsha, 9th mile to Obelafor not left out. Aba to Ikot-Ekpene is impassable just like Owerri to Port-Harcourt. Is Orji Uzor Kalu not seeing the state of Ohafia-Arochukwu road?”

“He Orji Uzor did not talk like somebody that is aspiring to go to the senate. How does he want the votes of his constituents, when he said publicly that South East roads including Ohafia-Arochukwu road have been fixed? Abia North people, if Arochukwu-Ohafia road has been done by Buhari let us vote for Orji Uzor Kalu.”

Nwakodo who is also the President General of Ndume Development Union Federated said the drivers and the South East people are suffering untold hardship.

“Apart from road that has become death trap, police and army checkpoints and their toll collection is another suffering. If you travel to the north, you can see smooth roads, no checkpoints but from Enugu to Obelafor, you will see over 50 checkpoints and at each point, they collect N500 from you. In most cases they engage civilians to collect tolls for them. All these are the ills the likes of Orji Uzor should fight against instead of using the welfare of the South East to play dirty politics. His statement is inciting and what that means is that the South East will continue to suffer. That is a bad politics.”

He equally advised the management of the road safety to direct its men to be on the highway and not in the streets especially on Sundays. “Their duty is in the high way and not in the urban city”
