The United Nations on Saturday October 22, organised a peace walk in Abuja to kick off activities for its 77th anniversary, ahead of October 24.
The 10 km walk kicked off from UN House, Abuja. It was an opportunity to gather safely and promote peace and solidarity in the nation.
Participants of the walk included the UN Resident Coordinator, all UN agency heads, UN staff and families
members of the Diplomatic Corps and stakeholders
The objective of Walk was to emphasize
Peace Awareness, which aims to promote the need for peaceful co-existence globally and
appreciate diversity.
The UN said Walk the Talk is not a fitness competition but an opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle.
Furthermore, an exhibition to showcase the works of the UN agencies would be conducted on Monday 24 October24, 2022 at the green lawn, UN House from 09.00 to 16.00
The UN was established on October24, 77 years ago, to promote international peace and prosperity, after the devastating World War II.
The theme for this year’s anniversary is, “The UN and Nigeria: partnership for peace, prosperity and sustainable development”.
Nigeria is an active member of the UN and over the years has made significant contributions to peacekeeping operations.
Besides, Nigeria has supported development initiatives for her people and has been an active partner in global multilateralism.
The UN commends Nigeria’s contributions to peace.
