…As Police in Umuahia lock their offices
Ugochukwu Ugoji-Eke, Umuahia
It was a bad monday morning for thr police station at Uzuakoli in Bende local government area of Abia state as unknown gunmen in the early hours set a police station ablaze.
This is coming weeks after a similar incident took place in World Bank housing estate Aba when a police station was razed and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Reports said that the station which houses barracks for the officers and men of the police working there woke up to sounds of gun shots, which made policemen there to run for their dear lives.
Many of the policemen were seen hiding in bushes around Uzuakoli even as they abandoned their patrol vans along the roads within the community.
The police stations around Umuahia were seen locking up all the entances around their area, with the mind to avoid being attacked by the unknown gun men.
It could be recalled that the state government last week alerted the public of a planned attack in parts of the state, urging vigilance.
All efforts by to reach PPRO in the state, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna for a comment proved abortive as all calls placed on his phone rang out.
