Abia Police Command has just confirmed that gunmen in the early hours of Monday set Uzuakoli Police Station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State on fire.

Briefing newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna  said the gunmen came using rocket launchers and dynamite to set the station ablaze.

According to the Abia state  Police command spokesman, no arms were removed during the 2.am attack but some vehicles were burnt, disclosing that the police put in resistance, but that the gunmen overpowered them and set free 2 inmates, while no lives were lost.

Ogbonna said that no arms were taken, while some vehicles were burnt, adding that investigation is on.

The State government had last week alerted Abians on such possible attack on key locations.
