Government at all levels and school authorities have been called upon by the president of The Master’s Vessel Classical Academy, Umuahia, Abia state, Pastor Amarachukwu Uwaezioke to end the activities of cultism in schools.
The president revealed this while addressing the press shortly after the 36th graduation and prize giving ceremony of the school.
He regretted that cultism was more prevalent in public schools than private schools adding that before now, cultism was only heard in universities but because nothing was done by both school authorities and government it has come down to secondary schools and even primary schools.
He regretted that parents are no longer training their children in the ways of the Lord adding that the more we avoid biblical morality, the more morals are going down.
“Parents should be involved in monitoring what their children do in schools, the first year in the university is very important because that is when the students are recruited into cult activities, the school authorities should be at alert and government should ensure strict measures to bring to an end the heinous crime “.
Uwaezuoke who retired as perm sec. In Imo state civil service before picking the new appointment said the public schools open up the space in education noting that there is need for more regulations maintaining that quality of teachers would depend on the quality of students.
He disclosed that his school parade quality teachers and wonderful students and their emphasis is not necessarily on fees adding that he is proud that his students are always one of the best in WAEC in the state.
The president used the occasion to beg the state government to look into multiple taxation, he noted that every year private schools in the state are meant to register and policies made by the state are stifling the private schools which lead to unhealthy competition.
He called for an end to miracle centres across the country, noting that the end result of this centres are production of half baked students. This is a time bomb already exploding as what we see today is failing standard of education.
Speaking earlier the principal of the school, Mr. Robert Okocha said it is a good idea for churches to run schools as it will impact morals on the students.
He advised government at all level to hand over schools owned by churches to them noting that the rate of immorality among the youths is alarming
The principal maintained that he is of the view that both state and federal government were under funding schools across the country this he said is regrettable to see pupils in private schools sit on bare floor to learn.
