Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman,  Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, says the death of Lagos State second republic Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, has robbed Nigeria of a committed, iconic, pious and patriotic elder statesman.

Wamakko, also a former governor of Sokoto State,  said in a condolence message that the deceased had played invaluable roles in the entrenchment and sustenance of democracy in Lagos State and Nigeria, in genersl.

He further stated that, Lagos state had recorded tangible  giant strides between 1979 and 1983, when Jakande was its governor.

Wamakko also declared that Jakande lived a life worthy of emulation, in addition to making utmost sacrifices to Lagos State and  Nigeria, in general.

In a related development,  Wamakko has expressed shock on the death of the forner Sokoto State Education Commissioner , under his administration Alhaji Bello Yusuf Danchadi.

His special assistant on media and publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, said he described the deceased as a pious and dedicated gentleman.
