Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, former Nigerian ambassador to Spain and wife of late Igbo leader Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu has said the reason she is contesting for senate in Anambra South senatorial district in the 2019 elections is that she wants to represent her people who are in dire need of proper representation. She made this known on Tuesday, 28 August 2018, during a meeting with stakeholders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the zone, when she formally declared her intention to contest at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State
“I’ve come here, today, to reaffirm that I wish to represent our senatorial district at the red chamber. Why is it important? It is important because our people need to be represented appropriately,” she said.
The ex-beauty queen also said she wants to continue her late husband legacy, accomplish his dreams and liberate the Igbo from hardship and bondage.
“Igbo have suffered so much in this country, and have continued to suffer. Our leader, Dim, suffered so much for our people,” she noted
She used the opportunity to appeal to the people to rally around her, adding that she has come to make a difference in their lives.
“Evil prevails when good people sit and do nothing; to sit down and be an armchair critic means you are at home with the evil. That is why I came out to make a difference. So, if you want the evil to stop, my people, send me, and I will get our dues. We must identIfy with APGA. I’ve laboured tirelessly for this party and I will continue to protect the ideals of the party,” she averred.
In attendance at the meeting were former governor of Imo State Ikedim Ohakim and U.S-based medical practitioner and multimillionaire Dr.Godwin Maduka , who recently impacted Umuchuku, his community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State by building a 17-storey multipurpose skyscraper, a world class High Court, Magistrates’ Court,, town hall, educational institutions, civic centre, police station, health centre, judges residential buildings, churches, research centre, monastery as well as tarring roads and houses for people in his community etc. It would be recalled that Ojukwu recently paid a courtesy call on the multimillionaire to seek his blessings.
Ohakim, on his part, was full of praise for Ojukwu, who he described as spirit and identity of the Igbo.
“Bianca Ojukwu has what is called double legacy and double identity. She is not an ordinary human being; she is a spirit and the identity of the Igbo man. Bianca has suffered for us, the Igbo, by sacrificing everything to be by our leader, Ojukwu, till death,” Ohakim said. He also noted that her late father, C.C. Onoh, single-handedly built a house for former premier of the Eastern region, Chief Michael Okpara.
Ohakim later appealed to the other contestants to step down for Ojukwu as a mark of respect for her late husband.
“I beg all others who want to be senators in this zone to please respect our late leader, Ojukwu and father Onoh, by stepping down for Bianca Ojukwu,” he said.
Ojukwu has the backing of big wigs in the party, including Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra State.
