Farmers in Yobe state have commended Northeast Regional Initiative NERI for donating 150 water pumps to Kanamma community for irrigation farming.
They made the commendation, recently at the Kanamma, Yunusari local government headquarters whom most are farmers but were displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Making the symbolic presentation to the beneficiaries, Chairman of the local government who was represented by the Supervisor Councilor, Agriculture Bukar Kolo Kanamma called on the other Non-Governmental Organizations to emulate NERI for making impacts on the lives of vulnerable farmers.
He said the Boko Haram insurgency had brought many setbacks especially on the lives of the citizenry.
He further said, NERI had done much to his people but still seeks for more interventions to restore the victims back to their normal lives.
The Programme Coordinator, Abatcha Kachalla, said the water pumps were given freely to the farmers to help them recover from trauma of the insurgency.
“The distribution of the 150 water pumps was to assist the vulnerable communities here because most of them depend solely on farming as occupation. We are doing this to reduce the vulnerability among the victims of violent extremists for them to have food sufficiency and be
self reliant” he said.
Kachalla further, said they have trained all the beneficiaries on the maintenance of the water pumps urging them not to sell them out but use them for the benefit of their families.
