….Constructs 1,000 Shelters For Returnee IDPs

In fulfilment of his pledge to repatriate Borno IDPs in Niger Republic on refuge back home in Nigeria and support them, about
674 displaced IDP households have received food items and cash support from Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. The gesture took place on Saturday when the governor travelled to Damask, headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of for official engagements.
The IDP households were Borno State displaced indigenes who have been in refuge in Niger Republic and returned back home to Damasak from Niger Republic having fled to Niger Republic for safety over Boko Haram attacks.
Zulum supervised the distribution of bags of grains and cooking oil to each household in addition to the disbursement of N10,000 cash to each of the households or families as immediate social protection.
Governor Zulum who was in company of the State Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) inspected ongoing 1000 shelters under construction at Damasak that will accommodate the returning refugees from Niger Republic.
During the inspection, he directed the extention of military in trenches in Damasak in order to provide enough space for the construction of more houses for the returning refugees IDPs while commending the quality and progress of the work.
Beside humanitarian issues, the governor in Damasak visited an abandoned irrigation facility which was destroyed by the Boko Haram Insurgents, he directed the State Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) to invite engineers to look into the possibility of reactivating all the machines with a view to restoring the destroyed and abandoned irrigation facility so that the rural farmers can make good and proper use of the facility.
Governor Zulum further directed the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA) to reassess the extent of damage at the famous “kam kura noz3y3” bridge, linking Nigeria with Niger Republic and report back to his office for further neccessary action before visitng the Damasak General Hospital, and the Military Task Force Brigade Damasak.
At the brigade, the governor commended the gallantry of the Nigerian soldiers in their sustained efforts to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens in the town.
He however appealed to the Brigade Commander to look at the possibility of allowing people to access their farmlands early, as against the usual 10 am daily to enable them cultivate their farmlands on time.
