The entire members of Abia North chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) have directed a foremost economist of World Bank repute, Chief Ikechi Emenike to immediately declare to run for the seat of the governor of the state.
The people of Abia North senatorial zone of the state made their stand known at the end of their retreat held at Oguduasa in Isuikwuato council area through an eleven point communique signed by Chief Ejiofor Okeudo chairman of the zone, Chief Chukwuma Ugah, leader Isuikwuato leader and Dr Agbaeze Ogbu Ujah state exofficio member Abia North.
The Abia North members of the APC said they are giving Emenike two weeks to make the declaration or else the entire state will March to his country home at Umukabia in Umuahia North council area and stay there until he heeds the call of the people.
The communique reads in parts, “That we the people of APC Abia North have noticed that since 1999, Abia has been in the hands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) without any meaningful development as the state has been in backward movement”.
“That infrastructures in the state have been in a decay situation while industries and business ventures are all in a comatose state to the detriment of the  state and its people”.
“All facets of economic activities in the state are as good as dead, while contractors have abandoned their sites because of the inability of the state government to meet their contractual obligations”.
“The security situation in the state is nothing to write home about as armed robbery and kidnapping activities are now the order of the day as our people are now living in fears and can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed”.
“The government of the day is said to be building a so called flyover along the Osisioma axis of the Port Harcourt-Aba-Umuahia-Enugu expressway while workers and pensioners are dying in their numbers because of none payment of salaries and pensions”.
“ABIAPOLY Aba, Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba, Health Management Board (HMB), State Education Board (SEMB) among other agencies are being owed several months of salary arrears and when they complain they are threatened with sack if they embark on any industrial action”.
“That because of the facts listed above, we the people of Abia Nortn have decided to direct Chief Emenike to openly and immediately declare his intention to run for the office of governor of Abia state or we will picket his country home”.
The Abia North chairman of the APC, Okeudo said that there is no going back on their stand for Emenike to come out and liberate the state from those who have been killing the state for years.
