The Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Chief Ikechi Emenike has received over 500 defecting politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Umunneochi local government area of the state.
The defecting members who were led by their leader Elder Monday Ihemezie said that they have looked at their former party (PDP) and found out that they have nothing to show for the number of the years they have been piloting the affairs of the state.
Ihemezie said that they have heard how Emenike has been empowering those who are members of the his party with various federal appointments even without taking any form himself and see in him a selfless leader who can move the state forward.
He said that his supporters had wanted to invade the home of Bar Fabian Okonkwo the APC leader in Umunneochi with over forty buses but he told them to wait for them to go first and make the contacts and formal declaration.
The former PDP leader in Umunneochi said that the true position and number of those moving from PDP to APC in his local government area will be known during the party’s campaign in October in the council area, “I can assure you that we are over 500 in number”.
Ihemezie who came in the company of Chukwuemeka Madu a youth leader, Wilfred Iro and many others said that they are tired of the numerous lies of the ruling party in the state (PDP) and urged people to vote them out during the next election.
He told members of the his new party that they came to know if they will be accepted into APC, “We are here to know if we will be accepted or not, we only wanted to move to enable us change things in the state”.
Ihemezie said, “We have seen that the motor which is the PDP is moving at a snail speed and that it will not take us fast enough to our destination and on time, so we have decided to join an electric train which is the APC which we believe will not only take us to our destination on time but safely too”.
Earlier while introducing the new entrants, Okonkwo said that Ihemezie who has been a former Transition Council chairman of the area said that he told them to plead with their members to hold on till campaign time for their formal declaration.
Okonkwo told them that they have no problem and that all their aspirations will be met in APC and urged them to go home and work on their remaining members to join them as they will never regret their decision to join the ruling party at the national level.
Receiving the new entrants, the Abia North chairman of APC, Chief Ejiofor Okeudo said that with their joining them that they will enjoy equal rights with those who have been in the party since 2014.
Okeudo said that he was receiving them into the party on behalf of the state chairman, Dr Emmanuel Aguzie Ndukwe as they are members of his zone and assured them of adequate protection at all times.
He told them that they will be given a register to write down the names of their members which will be incorporated with the register of the party in the local government area thereby making them authentic APC members of Umunneochi council area, Abia North and Abia state in general.
In his own speech the state chairman, Dr Ndukwe told with their entry into the party that they will be accorded the rights and privileges of the party, “You are also free to contest for any political position of your choice like other members before you”.
Ndukwe told them to go and get prepared as they will be officially welcomed into the party during their campaign in the local government area come October and that they be received by Chief Emenike.
