The All Progressive Congress (APC) Abia state youths chapter under the leadership of Chief Ikechi Emenike have said that the desired and long expected change in the politics of Nigeria lies in the hands the youths.
Speaking in Umuahia at a retreat of the party, organized by the youths of Abia Central zone, presided over by Hon. Ikenna Anyalewechi, APC State Youths Leader, regretted that youths of the country have been wrongfully during elections.
Anyalewechi noted that youths have in most cases been used as mere objects of campaigns to ensure victories at elections and subsequently sidelined, as they would, according to him, be relegated to the background.
He however, insisted that the present day youths have decided to take the bull by the horn against all odds in their quest to effect the desires change, while, applauding the President Mohammadu Buhari led government.
The Abia APC youth leader maintained that President Buhari’s administration has done very well since they assumed office, stressing that he (Buhari) has been able to breach the gap between government and the youths since assumption of office.
Anyalewechi said, “In the past, the youths were being used and dumped but the Buhari led administration has broken the record of none engagement of the youths in the political affairs of the country”.
“We’ve seen not less than 30% of the youths being appointed into one position or the other and it’s an encouragement to the youths, also I think by so doing, there are still more positions where the youths are contesting for in the forthcoming elections”.
“I believe with the young blood flowing in their veins which enables them do what our aged people cannot do and by the grace of God, it will be a success because the youths are here to make a change”.
He then used the opportunity to plead the youths in Abia state in particular and Nigeria in general irrespective of party affiliation to obtain their PVCs to ensure their right to vote and be voted for.
In his own speech the zonal chairman of Abia Central zone of the party Chinedum Adindu, reiterated the need for the youths to sensitise and mobilize others at their various wards, but lamented that a lot of youths in the state, whom he maintained were the future of tomorrow had no understanding of their call as agents of change.
Adindu however called on the youth delegates from the various six LGs of the zone to”go home and mobilize, as well as sensitise those lagging behind and advised them to go home and mobilize in order to enlarge the coast.
He said that they can only achieve this by bringing out quality youths, “We need limitless number to achieve this and we can achieve results by obtaining our PVCs as it is the key to effect the desired change in our society”.
Reacting, Peters Chukwuemeka Ezemadu, the zonal youths leader, Abia Central and the Convener of the meeting, urged the youths of Abia and Nigeria in general to awaken from their slumber and do the needful so as to be able to bring about turn-around in the politics of the state.
Ezemadu implored the youths to use their mandates well, noting that any mandate used judiciously always has dividends in it which will always have a rippling effect in all spheres of human life.
He said, “Today some persons will come out with promises which they would not keep to in the end, so we need them to use their mandates wisely and vote for the persons who keep to their campaign promises, the youths should hurry up and get their PVCs”.
