Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Engr. Chinedum Orji, has said that no plot by any politician can pitch the House against the Governor of the State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The Speaker who alleged a plot by some politicians to pitch the House against the Executive arm, advised such politicians seeking to destabilize the State to desist from any act capable of truncating the peace, unity and progress of the state.
Orji’s warning may not be unconnected with the agitation over which zone of the state produces Ikpeazu’s successor in 2023 which has pitched politicians and groups against each other.
The agitations appeared to have heightened with the rumoured ambition of the Speaker to succeed Ikpeazu and the recent declaration of governorship ambition by the Governor’s kinsman and Senator representing Abia South zone, Chief Enyinnaya Abaribe.
“As we head towards the 2023 elections, the Speaker desperate politicians have started plotting and seeking means to create panic and heat up the political space. This style of politics is retrogressive and would do Abians no good. For the records, the Abia state legislature and the executive arm have enjoyed cordial relationship in the last seven years and would continue to do so till the end of the administration. Let it be clearly stated that no amount of plot can plant any seed of discord between the two arms of government,” a statement by his media aide, Mr. Jude Ndukwe, read.
The Speaker also advised citizens of the state to remain law abiding and avoid rumours to guarantee peaceful campaigns and election period ahead of the 2023 general elections.
