As political realignment and mega coalition ahead of the 2027 general election continue, the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG) on Friday approached the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) with a letter to register a new political party to be known as All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The coalition took the decision after a meeting held on May 6, 2025 which was chaired by former President of the Senate, David Mark.

The letter sent to INEC dated June 19, 2025 with Reference NumberADA/HQ/INEC/001/V.1, signed by Chief Akin A. Ricketts (Protem National Chairman) Abdullahi Musa Elayo (Protem National Secretary), which was seen by our reporter reads,

“Application For Registration As A Political Party

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), as a political party. This is sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.

“The name of the party shall be All Democratic Alliance, with ADA as our acronym and Justice for All as our slogan. The National Secretariat of the party is as stated at the bottom of the association’s letterhead used in this application.

“We have also herewith attached our Logo, describing in details the symbolism of our party colours and their configuration and the corn (maize). We have further attached our Manifesto, encapsulating details of our party ideology, and our constitution providing the legal framework that defines our identity, structures our organization, regulates our affairs and guides our actions in alignment with Sections 40 and 222 of the Constitution, Section 75 of the Electoral Act (2022) and global democratic principles and objectives.

“While we eagerly await further action from the Commission on the next step forward towards attaining our desired goal, please accept the consideration of our highest respect”.

Poinblanknews.com further gathered that from the minutes of a meeting held by the coalition on June 19th, 2025, in Abuja, it passed the following resolutions,

“Approved the formation of a political association named All Democratic Alliance.

“Approved its conversion into the said political association named

“Approved that the association apply to INEC for registration as a political party by its name – as All Democratic Alliance (ADA); Approved the Party Logo, Slogan and Motto; Approved the party manifesto; Approved the Constitution of the Party; and Approved the appointment of the Interim Leadership of the party as follows: Chief Akin A. (2022)”.

The minute was signed by Hon. Rotimi Amaechi Chairman and Dr. Umar Ardo as Secretary.

According to the party’s manifesto, its vision is to “To mobilize Nigeria’s diverse peoples into a cohesive democratic force that will restore the moral, political, economic and social compass of the nation by rebuilding trust in governance and institutions, establishing a patriotic national culture and creating a leadership elite based on merit, vision and public spirit”.

Its core objectives include: “Transcend historical and ethnic arguments to settle national disagreements; Eliminate all forms of ethnic and religious extremism, sectarianism and separatist tendencies; Entrench economic, political and cultural equality of all Nigerians; and Promote dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual respect across Nigeria’s diverse communities”.

However, it is unclear if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El’Rufai are part of the coalition as at the time of filling this report.

However, the fact that former Senate President chaired the meeting suggests that he is on his way out of the main opposition party.

When pointblanknews.com enquired if former Senate President David Mark has abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party, a source close to the elder statesman who does not want to be mentioned said that the fact that he was part of a coalition meeting does not mean that he has resigned from the PDP.

“I don’t have the information yet, but since you have a document, use it to extract your information,” he responded.
