Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has hailed the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on the certificate forgery case brought against him by the All Progressives Congress.

The re-elected governor said though “desperate individuals” tried to undo the will of the people but justice and truth prevailed.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the court on Saturday dismissed the alleged certificate forgery case filed against Obaseki by the APC and one of its members, Edobor Williams.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, held that the plaintiffs failed to prove their claim that Obaseki forged his academic certificates that he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission before the September 19 2019 governorship election in the state.

Reacting in a statement, the governor said, “The verdict of the Federal High Court, delivered by Honourable Justice Ahmed Mohammed is well-received and a victory for the rule of law. It was a most needless attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor but we are happy today that justice and truth have prevailed.”

He also thanked the Peoples Democratic Party and the people of the state for their support during the court travails.

Obaseki, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2016 was denied the party’s ticket for a second term in 2020 due to intra-party wrangling.

He later defected to the PDP and defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate and the anointed candidate of political heavyweights like Bola Tinubu and Adams Oshiomhole in the 2020 Edo State Governorship Election.
