Former Minister for Water Resources, Barrister Mukhtari Shagari has officially declares his intention to contest for Governor of Sokoto State ahead of 2023 general elections.
Shagari, who was also a two term deputy governor in Sokoto State make his intention known while addressing stakeholders at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) office in Sokoto on Thursday.
The former two term Minister of Water Resources under President Olusegun Obasanjo, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state is hoping to succeed the incumbent, Aminu Tambuwal.
Speaking while presenting his expression of interest form, addressing stakeholders and party faithfuls, Shagari said his intention to contest for the Gubernatorial seat was to consolidate on the achievement of Tambuwal led administration.
He assured party faithfuls in the state that as a former minister of the federal republic of Nigeria and two term deputy governor of the state, he posses all.rge required experience to become the next governor of the state.
He further expressed his readiness to operate an open administration which he said will benefit the people of Sokoto State.
Shagari said his belief in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), makes him remain loyal to the party since inception in 1998 till date.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto, Bello Goronyo, assured him of level playing field for all the aspirants.
Recalled that the state Commissioner for environment, Sagir Bafarawa, was the first person to obtain expression of interest and declare for governoship seat in the state.
