Despite a unanimous ruling of the 5-member panel dismissing the application of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Justice Bulkachuwa has stepped down from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
PDP had asked the Appeal Court President to step aside, on grounds that her relationship with prominent APC chieftains.
But the five member panel ruled that there is not enough evidence for her to step down as the individuals mentioned are not parties before the tribunal neither are they witnesses listed by the petitioner to be called in the case.
Court held that no allegation has been made in the petition against the relatives of the President Court of Appeal. That being married to a politician is not wieldy enough to input bias against Bulkachuwa.
After the ruling, Bulkachuwa herself voluntarily announced she is stepping down, having been satisfied that the position of the law has been established.
