Amidst the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, the Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu will maintain impartiality between Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This announcement came as a response to speculations regarding Tinubu’s stance in the ongoing turmoil.

According to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, during an interview on TVC, any expectation that President Tinubu would favor one side over the other would be met with disappointment. Ngelale emphasized that Tinubu’s priority is ensuring the smooth operation of the Rivers State government for the benefit of its people, rather than taking sides in the political discord.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State government swiftly responded to comments made by Abdulahi Ganduje, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding the impeachment of Governor Fubara. Joseph Johnson, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, rebuked Ganduje’s remarks, stating that Ganduje lacked the moral authority to discuss impeachment, considering the legal challenges he currently faces.

Johnson emphasized that Governor Fubara has not committed any impeachable offense and criticized Ganduje’s intervention as baseless. He further highlighted ongoing legal issues involving Ganduje, questioning his credibility to comment on matters of governance in Rivers State.

As the political landscape in Rivers State continues to be fraught with tensions and accusations, the statements from both the Presidency and the Rivers State government underscore the complex dynamics at play and the challenges of maintaining stability amidst political discord.
