The Rivers State House of Representatives caucus has expressed its frustration with Ikenga Ugochinyere, the lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, for his involvement in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The caucus has called on the leadership of the House to take disciplinary action against him.

This call comes in the wake of Ugochinyere’s recent press conference, where he urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to charge 23 former Local Government Chairmen with treason for overstaying their tenure. The caucus, led by Dumnamene Dekor of Gokanna/Khana Federal Constituency, believes Ugochinyere’s interventions are unwarranted and detrimental to resolving the crisis.

Dekor’s statement, issued on Friday, accused Ugochinyere of exploiting a situation he scarcely understands for personal gain. “Ugochinyere’s actions are not only ill-informed but also deeply damaging. He has consistently spread misinformation and half-truths, undermining ongoing legal efforts to resolve the disagreements in Rivers State,” the statement read.

Dekor argued that Ugochinyere’s behavior has been irresponsible and unbecoming of a federal lawmaker. “Since the crisis began, Ugochinyere has abandoned caution and decorum, acting instead as a provocateur in a matter beyond his remit,” he said.

The caucus emphasized that Ugochinyere’s repeated interference is a blatant assault on due process and the integrity of the judiciary. “His recent statements are an attack on the judicial process, which is still underway. This is especially hypocritical coming from someone who owes his position to a court judgment,” Dekor added.

Labeling Ugochinyere’s involvement as an example of “exuberant infantilism,” the caucus expressed its hope that he would soon come to understand the seriousness of his role as a federal lawmaker. “We initially attributed his conduct to the inexperience often seen in new members, but it has become clear that Ugochinyere is intent on doubling down on his disruptive tactics,” Dekor said.

The statement further dismissed Ugochinyere’s relevance to Rivers politics, highlighting that he is not from the state and thus has no stake in its affairs. “Ugochinyere is an outsider to Rivers politics and his involvement only serves to complicate matters unnecessarily,” Dekor stated.

The caucus called on the leadership of the House of Representatives to address Ugochinyere’s actions, which they believe violate sections of the constitution and the privileges of House members. “Ugochinyere’s behavior not only disrespects the members of this caucus but also brings disrepute to the House as a whole,” Dekor concluded.

As the political crisis in Rivers State continues, the caucus remains steadfast in its commitment to resolving the issues through proper legal and legislative channels, urging all external parties to refrain from further complicating the situation.
