The Senate has officially pardoned and recalled Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi following a 77-day suspension.

Senator Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, was suspended on March 12, 2024, over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 budget. The suspension, originally set for three months, was lifted early after a motion moved by Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro.

Senator Moro expressed regret on behalf of Ningi and pledged to take full responsibility for his actions. This motion initiated the recall process, which culminated in Senate President Godswill Akpabio announcing Ningi’s unconditional return. Akpabio highlighted Ningi’s resourcefulness and emphasized that the decision transcended religious and ethnic divides.

Ningi’s conduct during his suspension had been a topic of scrutiny and debate within the Senate. However, the brief plea by some lawmakers facilitated his early reinstatement, just two weeks before the end of his suspension term, which was supposed to terminate on June 12, 2024.

This recall underscores the Senate’s commitment to maintaining unity and addressing internal conflicts promptly and fairly.
