Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has concluded arrangements to disrupt the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja ostensibly to ratify its Zoning Formula for the presidency, Pointblanknews.com gathered.
A security report accessed by top Party officials and made available to Pointblanknews.com indicates that Governor Wike is sponsoring a massive protest against his party leadership over its desire to throw open the party’s zoning formula for the presidency.
The report indicated that he has already mobilized persons to carry out the massive protest in order to force the leadership to jettison the plan of allowing the contest open to every zone which will be detrimental to his planned ambition to be the sole candidate from the South.
A highly placed party stalwart said “Yes, Wike has long wanted the party to shut out other zones and Zone the presidency to the south where he will emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.
“Leaving it open, he will face other influential party bigwigs most especially Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is favoured to win the contest. Wike, will do everything to ensure this does not take place “.
Another party chieftain who does not want to be named said the activities of the Rivers State Governor is a cause for concern for party members.
“We are deeply concerned by the way he has been carrying on. This is not what is expected of a Governor and one of our leaders. He needs to tone it down. The party does not belong to him alone and his own ideas cannot be more than all the members of our great party. Wike must stop.”
Meanwhile, in an advertorial, Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki accused his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike of unguarded and disruptive tendencies, urging party leaders to call him to order.
Obaseki wondered why Wike is always fond of threatening the party and party leaders adding that while nobody is against Wike’s desire to run for President, he should not pursue his ambition in a disruptive manner.
“While Wike is free to use his resources as he deems fit in pursuit of his ambition, he should not attempt to cow, intimidate, cajole and threaten others into doing his bidding. Edo State cannot and will not be procured for anyone’s personal ambition.” Obaseki said.
