Nigerian International, Semi Ajayi has joined Hull City Semi Ajayi on a two-year contract, with an option for a third year, following his departure from West Bromwich Albion.
The experienced centre-back, who has amassed over 200 appearances in the Championship, will officially link up with the Tigers from July 1.
Known for his versatility, the 31-year-old can also operate as a holding midfielder and brings a wealth of experience in English football to The Tigers.
Ajayi spent six seasons at The Hawthorns, making 177 appearances and scoring 13 goals for West Brom.
He was a key figure in their 2019/20 promotion-winning campaign, and featured 33 times in the Premier League the following season. Last term, he played a role in helping the Baggies reach the Championship play-offs.
Speaking on his move to the MKM Stadium, Ajayi said he was drawn to Hull’s ambitions for the upcoming season.
“I’m really excited. I spoke to the sporting director and head of recruitment, and they sold me on the club’s vision and their plans. The club wants to challenge at the top end of the league, and that’s where I see myself fitting in,” he said.
“I bring Championship know-how, experience and leadership. I’m comfortable on the ball, strong in the air, and my pace is an asset. I had a great six years at West Brom, but now I’m hungry for a new challenge and eager to prove myself again.”
Prior to his time at West Brom, Ajayi impressed with Rotherham United, scoring 15 goals in 108 appearances and helping the Millers achieve promotion via the League One play-offs in 2017/18.
His earlier career included spells with Charlton Athletic, Arsenal, Crewe Alexandra, AFC Wimbledon, and Dartford.
Internationally, Ajayi has been capped 43 times by Nigeria and played every minute of the Super Eagles’ run to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
