A moment of brilliance from Anthony Ijoma proved decisive as the CHAN Eagles secured a hard-fought win in their international friendly, edging past their opponents with a narrow but well-earned victory. The match, which was closely contested from start to finish, came alive in the closing moments when Ijoma capitalized on a defensive lapse to fire home the only goal of the game. His match-winning effort not only showcased his clinical finishing but also gave the Eagles a morale-boosting result as they fine-tune preparations for upcoming continental qualifiers.

The CHAN Eagles have been under intensive training for over a week now ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda next month.

The team has been under the supervision of Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle with the full complement of the domestic coaches led by Daniel Ogunmodede.

The friendly win over the reigning league champions is the first in the series of friendly games for the team before they depart for the competition.

Nigeria will face Senegal, Sudan and Congo at the CHAN tournament.

Meanwhile, the trio of Godwin Obaje, Hadi Haruna and Kabiru Mohammed has expressed their eagerness for a good outing at the forthcoming delayed 2024 edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Obaje, Rangers International forward, said he’s fit, and has expressed his anticipation and excitement for the impending task ahead.

I’m looking forward to the tournament and we’re prepared. we’re giving our best to have a positive outing for Nigeria. I’m very fit with our training sessions and have been aggressive as well.”

Haruna, Remo Stars midfielder said it would be a dream comes true to participate at the CHAN tournament, stressing he possesses a strong will and unwavering intention to help the team succeed during the tournament.

“I know what I can give, I’m not scared, I am determined and focused, and i am ready to give my all to the team. It has always been my dream to participate in CHAN and play for the Super Eagles, so this is like a stepping stone to the next level.”

On his part, Mohammed, the Kwara United left back, said head coach Eric Chelle has a well-defined philosophy which is helping them stay consistent in terms of intensity and aggression.

‎”The coach has good philosophy and his trainings are high and intensive. He likes aggressive players that are good on the ball, track back to win possession when you lose the ball.” he stated.

Nigeria is in Group D alongside, Senegal, Congo and Sudan. The home based Super Eagles will start their campaign against current cup holders, Senegal, on August 5, 2025, in Tanzania.
