The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not return home empty-handed as the team beat Tunisia 1-0 to win the third place position at the Africa Cup of Nations’ third place match played at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo on Wednesday night.
It is the eighth time the Nigerian team will win the third place position. No team has grossed as much in the competition. The nearest to that is Cote d’Ivoire who had won the third-place battle four times in 1965, 1968, 1986 and 1994.
It was therefore a ‘record’ extending achievement by Nigeria to have doubled the number of their nearest rivals.
The Super Eagles have goal-poacher, Odion Ighalo to thank as he rallied to scramble in the ball in the third minute of the match.
He later pulled out of the game towards the end of the first half after pulling a hamstring injury.
