The Sokoto State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Nigerian international footballer, Abubakar Lawal, who played for Vipers Sports Club in Uganda.
In a condolence message signed by its chairman, Umar Kware, SWAN described Lawal’s passing as a shocking loss, particularly because the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
The association urged Ugandan authorities to expedite investigations to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
“We are saddened by his sudden passage, especially as the circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be unraveled by the police authorities in Uganda,” the statement read.
SWAN extended its heartfelt condolences to Lawal’s family, friends, and well-wishers, encouraging them to take solace in the belief that “Allah gives and Allah takes without seeking permission.”
The association also commended the management of Vipers Sports Club, the Uganda Football Authority, and the Nigerian Consulate in Uganda for their support to Lawal’s family during this difficult time.
In addition, SWAN acknowledged the Sokoto State Government for ensuring a smooth funeral arrangement for the late footballer, as well as the efforts of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Nigeria Diaspora Agency in standing by his grieving family.
