Unknown gunmen have attacked a serving soldier in the Nigerian Army, identified as Lance Corporal Adeniyi  Mayowa, in Aba, Abia State.

The incident took place at about 8.45pm, along Georges street, near the Abia State Fire Service, Aba, as the gunmen fired at his car.

The soldier with Army Number, 13NA/70/6609, claimed his life has been in danger since he reported a case of victimization and false allegation against him at the 144 Battalion, 14 Brigade, Ohafia ,to the Army authorities and the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC.

Mayowa said he was driving to Ogbor Hill area of Aba when he saw an unmarked Sienna bus which had trailed him from a distance suddenly switching off its lights.

He recalled that on June 29, 2019, he had fled into a Police station in Aba as the unmarked Sienna bus had also trailed him along Ikot Ekpene road.

According to him, “This is the second time the unmarked Sienna bus is trailing me. On the first day, I drove into a Police station for safety. On this time, I was driving along Hospital road when I noticed the unmarked Sienna bus trailing me again. I became suspicious when they switched off their headlamp. They almost caught up with me along the Fire service area, but I abandoned my car and escaped. The incident happened at about 8.45pm as I was on my way to Ogbor Hill. I alerted the

Police at Ndiegoro who came and took away my car.” Mayowa who alleged that his life is under threat, has petitioned the Police to save him and his family.

In a petition titled, “Petition on a case of Threat to my Life”, and addressed to the Area Commander, Aba, Mayowa, urged the Police to protect him and his family.

“It is out of fear and emotional trauma that I write through this medium to you. On the 29th of June, 2019, I was driving to see my lawyer, I saw a Sienna vehicle with four fierce looking armed men chasing me, I managed to drive to a Police station for safety. It is on the foregoing that I’m appealing to you to use your good offices to save my soul from the hands of my enemies,” the petition read in part.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon, said he was not aware of the incident.
