Governor Siminialayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed disappointment with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party has failed the people of Rivers amidst ongoing political challenges in the state.

Speaking during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation led by Chairman Senator Orji Uzo Kalu at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized that Rivers State is now prioritizing truth over party politics.

“In our State today we are no longer doing party. We are doing a movement, so you don’t blame me if I don’t go to the side of the party too much. The party has failed us here,” Governor Fubara remarked, underscoring the state’s commitment to defend democracy independently.

He urged the committee members to consider Rivers State’s interests as they discuss the privatisation and commercialisation of public enterprises. Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of state ownership in such processes to ensure accountability and viability of these assets.

“I will also appeal to you that in this process of privatisation, anything that has to do with our own State here that needs to be privatised, the Rivers State Government will be interested,” he stated, advocating for the state to acquire stakes in relevant enterprises to safeguard their interests.

Governor Fubara concluded by emphasizing that state ownership would not only protect these assets but also contribute to their effectiveness for the benefit of both Rivers State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
