Amazon announces 14,000 job cuts globally as AI Investment intensifies.

US e-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday confirmed plans to cut approximately 14,000 jobs worldwide as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and boost investment in artificial intelligence (AI).

In a statement posted on the company’s corporate website, Senior Vice-President Beth Galetti said the reductions are “a continuation” of Amazon’s efforts to reduce bureaucracy, remove operational layers, and prioritise investment in key strategic areas.

“While this will include reductions in some areas and hiring in others, it will mean an overall decrease of roughly 14,000 roles across our corporate workforce,” the statement read.

Galetti described AI as “the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet,” noting that it allows companies to innovate at unprecedented speed.

Reports earlier on Monday suggested Amazon might cut up to 30,000 positions globally over several months, targeting departments such as human resources, advertising, and management within its 350,000-office-employee structure—part of a total workforce exceeding 1.5 million.

“Looking ahead to 2026, we expect to continue hiring in key strategic areas while also identifying additional opportunities to remove layers, increase ownership, and achieve efficiency gains,” Galetti added.
