The Iwuanyanwu Foundation, a non-governmental Organization (NGO) in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN-SEEDC), has commenced a three-month entrepreneurship development and vocational training programme in Imo State themed “New Partnership for Entrepreneurship and Employment Creation (N-PEEC).

According to ChineduNsofor, the director of the foundation, the training programme was targeted at the unemployed youths, students and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Nsofor said this at the flag-off of the programmein Owerri, during which he stated that it sought to provide a robust new partnership for Nigeria through job creation that could raise Nigeria’s development indices.

“It seeks to make all Nigerians to be responsible for job creation by partnerships through which all Nigerian unemployed people and students can be helped to start small scale manufacturing and small and medium scale enterprises, after adequate Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) and vocational training by Iwuanyanwu Foundation in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria – South East Entrepreneurship Development Centre (CBN-SEEDC).

“Such small-scale manufacturing/SMEs are very critical at this junction of our national development, considering the current impact of excessive importation on our economy, which has dealt negatively on our foreign exchange reserve, and threw our nation into economic recession.”

He said unemployed youths and students were also going to be trained in industry related skill spanning through the oil and gas industry, power sector industry, agro-allied industry, manufacturing industry, etc.

He called oncompanies to invest in the training of the youths so that they can thereafter fill in the technical skill gap existing in the industries.

The director said that a partnership investment fund would be generated from private individuals, financial institutions, foreign donor agencies, politicians, social organizations, captains of industry, philanthropists and Foundations, both local and international.

Nsofor stated that these groups of prospective contributors would form the New Nigeria Private Sector Partnership that could fight unemployment, create new jobs and drive the Nigerian economy to become one of the 20 global largest economies within the next five years.

“The New Partnership for Entrepreneurship and Employment Creation (N-PEEC Programme) is a development-oriented programme that will drive Nigeria’s development through massive job creation by involving all Nigerians in partnerships where all unemployed Nigerians/students will be supported to be self-employed after going through a programme of vocational training in the area of small scale manufacturing and also an entrepreneurship development programme”.

Also speaking at the event, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the chairman of the foundation, explained that the flag-off of the scheme was meant to assist young men and women who are unemployed to acquire skills to enable them pursue occupations that would not only help them earn good living, but also contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

This, he explained, was sequel to the partnership between the foundation, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and SEEDC.

He said, “For us, it is an important milestone in our determination to support the government in their efforts to reduce unemployment and underemployment of Youths in the country.

“After this flag-off, participants will commence training in sundry vocations which include: power and energy (inverters and solar installation),agro-allied (poultry and fishery);film andphotography;interlocking/shredding;computer repairs, GSM and recharge card printing; construction and building technology; paint making,automobile,fashion designing, Ankara shoe and bag making. They would also be trained in bead,cosmetology, air refresher, liquid soap, perfume and detergent making. He said the would also be trained in food processing and preservation (baking, con and catering services-cake shops, meat pie).

Upon the completion of the training, Iwuanyanwu said that successful participants would be issued certificates that would enable them access loans from commercial banks to set up their own business enterprises.

“We hereby take liberty to commend the Governor of Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emeflele, and his team for the very resourceful and professional manner they have managed the finances of Nigeria during a difficult period in the history of our country Nigeria. Posterity will always appreciate their efforts.

“What we are witnessing today is part of the efforts of Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with Iwuanyanwu Foundation to solve the social problem of unemployment By the grace of God, this partnership no doubt is a beacon of hope to many Nigerians who have lost hope of having opportunity to make a living”.

He added, “It is my prayer that our youths will seize this opportunity and improve their economic condition and that of our country Nigeria.”
