MTN Nigeria remains the cream of the telecommunications industry as it emerges the leader in mobile internet performance for 2024, beating peer rivals Airtel Africa and Globacom (Glo) across all key performance indicators, according to the nPerf Barometer.

The analysis showcases MTN’s superiority in Download speed, Upload speed, and Latency. In the 4G focus area, MTN also stands out as the leader.

For the period analysed MTN’s subscribers enjoyed an average download speed of 17.82 Mbps, significantly higher than Airtel (9.98 Mbps) and Glo (5.66 Mbps).

MTN’s also led in upload speeds, with an average of 8.05 Mbps, compared to Airtel’s 4.35 Mbps and Glo’s 3.43 Mbps.

MTN delivered the lowest latency, averaging 79.44 ms, providing a smoother online experience compared to Glo (89.44 ms) and Airtel (119.85 ms).

The network offered the best streaming and browsing experiences, with 72.35% streaming satisfaction and 36.08% browsing performance on average, reinforcing its leadership in user experience.

“MTN leads the market with outstanding performances, particularly in Download speed, Upload speed, and Latency, along with a focus on 4G. Airtel and Glo also contribute significantly to the market’s competitiveness,” said analysts at nPerform Barometer

“The Nigerian mobile market remains robust, with operators striving for excellence and innovation, ensuring a dynamic and competitive landscape,” said the analysts.

Analysts have placed a Buy Ratings on the stock of MTN Nigeria on the expectation that the proposed increment on voice and data will possibly influence earnings and shareholders’ funds.

“We recognise that MTNN and other operators in the industry have several packages that attract varied tariffs and freebies,” said analysts at Chapel Hill Denham Limited.

“We forecasts ARPU growth of 43.42 percent year on year (YOY) FY-24E t N3,584.43/month, reflecting stronger rate vs. +15.20 percent yoy in FY-23, a solid growth of 31.20 percent yoy in Q3-24 to N3,276.10/per month,” said analysts at Chapel Hill Denham.
