The Kano State Police Command has apprehended Sadiq Zubairu for the alleged murder of his friend, Bello Adam, following a failed promise to secure employment after receiving ₦3 million from the victim.
Zubairu, a former colleague of the deceased at the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), had assured Adam of assistance in securing a job at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). However, when weeks passed without any job offer or refund of the money, pressure from Adam reportedly mounted on Zubairu.
In a tragic turn of events, Zubairu invited Adam to his residence, where he allegedly tied him up and subjected him to severe physical assault until he became motionless. The police reported that Zubairu then disposed of Adam’s body by the roadside and absconded with his car and mobile phone.
The victim’s brother reported Adam’s disappearance to the police on May 5, 2024, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body near Bechi Village in Kumbotso Local Government Area. Zubairu was subsequently arrested on May 6, 2024, at his residence in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
During interrogation, Zubairu confessed to the crime, admitting to conspiring with two others to lure Adam to his house and subsequently kill him. He attributed the motive to his inability to repay the ₦3 million he had fraudulently obtained from Adam under false pretenses.
The police recovered Adam’s vehicle and mobile phone, while investigations into the case continue. Zubairu is now in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers of deceit and betrayal, highlighting the need for caution and vigilance in financial transactions and personal relationships.
