Few days after the Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma warned that criminals who have decided thw create chaos to stay clear from the state, another police station has been razed down by yet to be identified gunmen.
The Orji Divisional Police Headquarters within the Owerri metropolis, came under attack today after Unknown Gunmen stormed the station and set it ablaze.
It was equally reported that the incident caused panic in the area as people scampered for safety as a result of heavy gun sound that were coming from the area.
It should be recalled that the Orji Police Station which is located along Owerri – Okigwe Road was also burnt down during the #ENDSARS protest in October, 2020.
This attack is coming barely 48 hours after the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma revealed to Channels TV on Sunday, that his government will crush anyone who attempts to attack Imo State again.
The threat however, was not enough to deter the Unknown Gunmen as they decided to defy the threat from the state governor to visit the state with gun shots and setting the police station ablaze.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives made up of soldiers, policemen and Air Force were said to be engaging the hoodlums with the aim dislodging them.
Eye witness around the area said that the situation caused panic as two banks situated close to the scene hurriedly shut down to avoid hoodlums from using the opportunity to attack them.
Businessmen ran away, vehicular movements were diverted while padestrians and passengers scampered for safety after running out of vehicles.
Our source told our reporter that the gunmen attacked the police station after blocking the expressway with their vehicles.
There were said to have told nearby traders not to panic.
The police spokesperson in the state, Bala Elkana, told newsmen that, “We are repelling them. The war is ongoing. Heavy security operatives detachment havw been sent to the scene.
We have taken the war to them. We are wining. There is a high number of casualties on the side of the hoodlums”.
