The Lagos State Police Command announced the apprehension of eight individuals listed on its wanted roster for suspected involvement in armed robbery. According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, the arrests were made following weeks of discreet and intensive investigation.
Hundeyin disclosed that the apprehended suspects were affiliated with two distinct syndicates, specializing in robbing residents of Lagos and engaging in vehicle snatching at gunpoint. While some suspects were captured within Lagos State, detectives pursued others to Iwo in Osun and Ibadan in Oyo States.
The age range of the suspects is reported to be between 22 and 32 years old. Hundeyin further alleged their involvement in the murder of a police officer, along with the theft of his rifle in the Iju Ishaga area of Lagos on December 9, 2023. The rifle has been successfully recovered during the initial arrests.
Among the items confiscated from the suspects are one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, 30 live cartridges, and various charms, as stated by the police spokesperson.
